Victims of India

The Mumbai terror attack has brought out the double standard that exists in our society. It has shown that society chooses the victims it wants to defend and protect. The public outcry is remarkable in this event, people want answers for what has happened, and they need immediate action. They have even threatened not to pay tax. Is security only the domain of taxpayers? Guess that’s why we have forgotten about the people who were killed in CST, as they probably are not the taxpayers of our country. Such vulgar display of protest would put even the terrorists to shame. They would be wondering is this all the people of India care for.

It is surprising why there was no such outcry when just two months back VHP picked up Christians from Orissa and started killing them. A nun was gang raped which went “unnoticed” by the police. Isn’t it a terror attack too, so why didn’t we see the same passion or anger among people who are demanding action in the Mumbai terror attacks? Is it because Khandamal took place at poverty stricken Orissa and not at the elite parts of Bombay. Why didn’t the same people demanding action against the Mumbai terror attacks not demand the ban of Vishwa Hindu Parishad? Khandamal is just two months old and it is already vanished from the public memory. So at this point I want to go back to 2002 and 1992 the events of shame that modern India can have to its name. Starting with Godhra; a state sponsored attack on chosen people, chosen because here the victims were someone, which the state always detested to have around them. Because Muslims did not fit into the idea of ’state’ that Gujarat wanted to create. But five years gone and still there is no action, Narendra Modi has been elected for the second time, Ratan Tata the god of Corporate India decided to give his blessings to Narendra Modi by shifting his nano plant. And now Godhra has become one of those forgotten riots of our country, nothing has changed even after United Nations declared the Gujarat riots as genocide.

I am not proposing an eye for eye solution here, but terrorism and unjust state are sides of the same coin. If Indian army trained the LTTE and openly gave its support to militants in Balochistan what moral right does it have to comment on Pakistan’s involvement in the Indian attacks? Is it because Indian victims are more sacred then those who were killed in Srilanka or NWFP. India is demanding action from Pakistan, it wants Pakistan to hand over the list of people that it believes are behind the attacks, what happens if tomorrow the Sri lankan government demands the same action from India. Will India ban DMK, which has openly supported LTTE in the past. We all know what the answer is, then why such rogue attitude. Does India really think aligning with the United States she can appear to act tough? As Arundhati Roy wrote, ‘a Super Power has no ally it only has agents. India will be nothing but an agent to carry out America’s agenda of bombing Pakistan. Because even the US has realized that Pakistan is no longer of any use in its infamous War against Terror.

We need to ask tough questions but not to anyone but to us. Are we ready to rectify all the wrongs that we collectively as a nation have committed? The mute spectator we were when LK Advani went ahead and demolished the Babri Masjid in front of a standing elected government followed by the Mumbai riots. If that can be justified as patriotism then why is the Mumbai attack termed as terrorism. We are angry, but also spare some thought for those unquestioned killings in Kashmir, the massacred citizens of Godhra; lets get out of our drawing rooms and bring perspective to these attacks. If the politicians are spineless let us be responsible and stop demanding CCTV’s and metal detectors as a shield against terror. The only defense against terror and the terrorists is to deliver the long pending justice, are we ready for it .

    @ Divya

You have a point and I agree that India created so hue and cry because it was attack on 5 stars and people who killed were elite class.
Had these people were from slums or ‘ common man’…no body would have raised an eyebrow.

So good and so transparent write-up. I am happy that I could come to this page and could read it. Otheriwse I was bit OFF to read a propaganda type of writings- which helps in creating a hate wave…but you have a point Diviya and I am sure as both countries are playing ROMANCE- Mumbai terror attack is forgotten and we are looking forward to 16K of sensex.

Hindu leader admits he was involved in Malegaon blasts

NEW DELHI, Dec 30: Dayanand Pandey, a Hindu religious leader, has admitted to his involvement in the Malegaon blasts, according to officials.

Media reports quoting Additional Commissioner of Police (Anti-Terrorism Squad) Parambir Singh on Tuesday said that Pandey had confessed to his involvement in the deadly attack.

Precautions have been taken to ensure that his confession is admissible in court. Pandey was arrested in Kanpur on November 12.

He was charged with plotting the bomb blasts outside a mosque along with prime accused Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt-Col Shrikant Purohit. Eight persons were killed in the explosion.

Pandey had attended several meetings with the other accused for planning the blasts. Purohit had helped Pandey in getting weapons and explosives.

Police said it had recovered a laptop from Pandey that contained audio and video clippings which revealed details about his several meetings with the other 10 accused.APP
